10 students from Year 10 visited Aston University, Chemistry department last week to find out about studying Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at University and beyond.
They worked in the labs with experiments on dyes, fats and polymers. Some of us know how to make the dye for denim and are now experts on tie dying, while others worked on slime and butter! Students were able to chat to the research staff and under graduates about life at Aston Uni and beyond, finding out the difference between straight chemists and chemical engineers. The engineers put the chemistry of the lab into practice, scaling up so it can be used in industrial processes, in all sorts of industries; food and drink, pharmaceuticals, clothing, the list is endless.
Doughnuts featured largely on the return journey!
