Weobley pupils celebrate another set of excellent GCSE results!

Pupils were celebrating once again this August when they picked up their long-awaited GCSE results.  The new GCSE courses and new grading system had meant that there was much trepidation amongst both staff and pupils who had worked incredibly hard to adapt to the new specifications.  Nevertheless the school achieved some of the best headline results ever with 70% of pupils achieving GCSE passes in both English and mathematics; significantly higher than the national average. 47% of pupils actually achieved strong (5+) grades in both these subjects placing them in the top quintile of schools in England! 66% gained 5 or more GCSEs including both English and mathematics.

Dean Williams, Executive Headteacher, said: “These results once again reflect the hard work and commitment of both our pupils and our staff.  I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved despite the unprecedented changes and demands of the new GCSE courses.  I am extremely grateful to have a team of such dedicated staff who constantly go above and beyond to ensure that every pupil is well-prepared and well-qualified for the next step in their education or training. Congratulations to the pupils and their families!”

Although many pupils achieved the highest grades across many of their subjects, a special mention must go to Jude Parker who achieved 5 of the coveted Grade 9s as well as 5 grade 8s; the equivalent of 10 straight A*s and A**s!
