Weobley High – Special Educational Needs

Welcome to Weobley High School’s dedicated special educational needs team.  Our aim is to assist pupils’ inclusion in a mainstream learning environment, to support and encourage and most of all to make their learning experience enjoyable.
We have subject specific teaching assistants that run small group workshops as well as 1-to-1 mentoring as required.
In addition our teaching assistants are trained to provide physiotherapy, literacy, numeracy, life skills speech and language therapy, anxiety management and ASD support sessions within school.
Alongside these specialist teaching assistants we also provide teaching assistant support to assist on a more general basis where needed within lessons.
Starting this year, we now also have on our team a specialist communication support teaching assistant that provides British sign language interpretation for pupils with profound hearing difficulties.
Our team work hard to include pupils with additional educational needs into our mainstream setting; one such method is providing clubs that all pupils can attend to spread understanding.
We have a British Sign Language club that runs weekly on Monday lunchtimes, and most recently club members performed at our Year 7 Christmas Show a sign-along performance of ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’.
We also have a daily lunch-time games club, run on a drop-in basis where pupils can choose from a variety of educational games to play.


Working in Partnership with other professionals
For pupils with profound or multiple needs we will also work in conjunction with other support services that will come into school to work with pupils, including the county’s Speech and Language Team and Hearing Impairment Team.
Furthermore, we also work closely with our local Specialist School in Leominster, Westfield’s Special School, to provide our pupil’s with the best possible learning experience we can, because every child matters.
